Occupational therapy wherever daily life happens.

Virtual care may be useful when goals can be addressed safely through observation, coaching, education, problem-solving, and real-time practice.

What telehealth can do

Bring the visit into the environment where routines happen.

Telehealth can let the occupational therapist observe everyday setups, discuss barriers, coach strategies, review routines, educate caregivers, and follow up on functional goals without requiring every visit to occur in person.

Telehealth is not automatically appropriate for every need. Safety, clinical complexity, technology access, goals, and the ability to participate virtually all matter.

📅

Routines & organization

Planning, task sequencing, schedules, follow-through, and simplifying everyday responsibilities.

🏠

Home setup

Reviewing environmental barriers, task setup, and opportunities to make routines more workable.

💬

Caregiver education

Coaching around cueing, assistance, participation, routine setup, and practical problem-solving.

🔋

Energy & pacing

Organizing tasks, using rest strategically, and prioritizing meaningful activities.

🧩

Adaptive strategies

Testing alternative approaches to tasks and reviewing strategy use when appropriate.

Functional follow-up

Checking progress, refining recommendations, and troubleshooting barriers.

What a virtual visit can look like

Simple, structured, and tied to the goal.

  1. 01

    Confirm location and fit

Telehealth is considered for eligible clients physically located in Florida at the time of service when virtual care can be delivered safely and appropriately.

  2. 02

    Prepare the space

You may be asked to have relevant items nearby or position the device so the therapist can observe the activity or environment.

  3. 03

    Work on the real task

The visit may include observation, guided practice, education, caregiver coaching, problem-solving, or strategy refinement.

  4. 04

    Leave with clear next steps

Recommendations are tied to the agreed goals and adjusted as needed.

May be a good fit when

  • The goal can be observed or practiced virtually
  • Education or caregiver coaching is central
  • The client can participate safely with available support
  • The home environment is important to the problem

May need another approach when

  • Hands-on assessment is essential
  • Immediate physical assistance is required for safety
  • Technology or communication barriers prevent effective participation
  • The situation is better served in person or by another provider
🌴

Florida location requirement

Telehealth availability is limited to eligible clients physically located in Florida at the time of service. Availability also depends on clinical appropriateness, scheduling, and scope.
